After
leaving Creston
in the Kootenays and continuing
along Highway 3 east you will enter the British
Columbia Rockies region. 38km (22miles) beyond Creston Highway 95
(from the BC/Idaho border) joins Highway 3 to become Highway 95. The
highway follows Moyie River to Moyie Lake and the town of Moyie.
Moyie
Lake Provincial Park:
This popular camping area is located on the north shore of Moyie
lake and provides access to boating, fishing,
swimming, and hiking.
Cranbrook:
Cranbrook is the largest centre in the Rockies and is situated on the
Rocky Mountain Trench with the Rockies to the east and south and the Purcells
to the west. The CPR bypassed Fort
Steele in favour of Cranbrook where it became the divisional point
of the railway and the center of the region. Cranbrook has 20 parks within
the city and a new performing art center, the Key City Theatre.
Canadian Museum of Rail Travels:
Featuring nine original cars from the CPR Trans-Canada Limited of 1929,
this was once a luxury service from Montreal to Vancouver.
Cranbrook
Heritage Tour:
The tour includes City Hall, Fire Hall, Masonic Temple and The Rotary
Clock Tower.
Elizabeth
Lake Sanctuary:
Located in the Trench corridor, these marshes attract Canada Geese, many
different species of ducks, and some song-birds. Moose, deer, and painted
turtles may also be viewed here.
